Hot cross buns are a beloved Easter treat, traditionally enjoyed toasted and slathered with butter. While the classic version is undoubtedly delicious, there's something special about shaking things up with unexpected flavours. Enter savoury hot cross buns. By incorporating tangy cheese, spicy jalapeño and smokey chorizo into the dough, these buns offer a delightful contrast of flavours that is sure to impress your family and friends. This recipe makes 12 pretty large buns. I cut mine open, toasted it up and enjoyed it with some cooling cream cheese! Or for the traditionalist toast it up and slather with some nice salty butter. This is an excuse to play around with different cheeses, spices. There are some brilliant vegetarian chorizo alternatives out there in the world as well. So enjoy recreating this delicious dish.
